The strings and grainy synthesizer of \"Crying Game\" lend an air of giallo dread to the deep sub-bass rumbles; \"Afters Lisboa\" processes cymbal crashes through a Leslie speaker to create a siren-like Doppler effect; \"Fallen Angels,\" one of the few tracks to feature Ferrandini's mostly untreated percussion work, stacks layers of reverb effects of varying lengths (an old Autechre trick) to add friction and give the spatialized sounds a dissociative quality. Album highlight \"Cova da Vaporwave\" utilizes creative sidechaining, warbly VHS-like tones and drums amplified through a Fender Twin to gather apocalyptic momentum. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRomance is a formidable artistic statement, establishing Ferrandini as one of the most vital composers on the contemporary avant-garde music scene.
