Harmonic and inharmonic \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eovertones, sympathetic vibrations, rhythmic \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eproportions, and resonant room acoustics are all \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eparameters of an emerging musical form explored \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethrough Chen, Atwal, and Layton's intuitive \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eapproach to spontaneous composition. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLayton's unique instrument, the 17- \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003estring electric bass, is played in a variety of tunings and\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efunctions almost like an amplified Greek Lyre (or \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emaybe a Baroque electric Theorbo), running \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethrough heavy fuzz, distortion, and ring \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emodulation, while Chen explores the interior of an \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eamplified grand piano, producing rich \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003econstellations of expanded sound clusters, and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe percussive attack of the hammers as they \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003estrike the strings, running through a Rat distortion \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecircuit. Atwal's drumming grounds it all through \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efluid cycles of hypnotic pulsation and propulsive \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emotion that contributes to a hypnotic and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003esensitive and tactile sense of temporal structure. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRecorded between 2024 and 2026 at Layton's \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003estudio in New York's Hudson Valley, the material \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eon the Enneads' debut self-titled record is a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edistillation of the trio's approach towards \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eimprovisation.
